Discover the Thrill of Kitesurfing in North-East Scotland with VDub Adventures

Welcome to VDub Adventures, where your journey to unforgettable experience begins!

In this blog, we're shining a spotlight on one of the most exhilarating activities you can enjoy in the North-East of Scotland, and on the NC500: kitesurfing.

Why Kitesurfing in North-East Scotland?

North-East Scotland is a paradise for kitesurfing enthusiasts. With its stunning coastline, consistent winds, and breath-taking scenery, it's the perfect destination for both beginners and seasoned kitesurfers. From the sandy beaches of Aberdeen to the big waves of Fraserburgh, you'll find ideal spots to catch the wind and ride the waves. As well as the coast for waves there are plenty of flat-water inland spots so you’ll definitely find somewhere to suit your ability.

Whether you're looking for the best beaches or hidden gems, Graeme's insights will ensure you make the most of your adventure.

Here’s a selection of our favourite spots to explore:

  • Aberdeen Beach: Renowned for its wide and expansive sandy shoreline, this beach is perfect for launching and landing kites. While the water can be choppy, the small waves make it ideal for beginners and intermediate riders.
  • Cruden Bay: A picturesque crescent-shaped beach, only 25 minutes from the Aberdeen pickup point. It’s easily accessible via the charming old harbour and supports S, SE, N, and NE winds. While visiting, enjoy a coastal walk to Slains Castle, and keep an eye out for seals and puffins along the way.
  • Fraserburgh Beach: Known for its robust winds and superb watersports conditions, Fraserburgh’s spacious sandy coast provides an excellent area for kiting.
  • Findhorn: Located on the Moray Coast, Findhorn features a tidal lagoon and a long sandy beach. It offers fantastic facilities, including a Royal Yachting Association sailing school with equipment rentals. Campervan parking spots can be reserved, many conveniently close to the beach. The wind directions here include E, NE, NW, and W.
  • Dornoch Beach: Just 40 minutes north of Inverness, this popular NC500 location is perfect for kitesurfing. It’s also family-friendly, with ample parking, a park near the shore, campsites, restaurants, and museums. Wind directions: E, NE, SE.
  • Balnakeil Beach, Durness: Situated on Scotland’s far northwest coast, this stunning beach is a personal favourite. It features turquoise water and soft white sand. Nearby, Durness offers campsites and dining options. Wind directions: W, SW, NW.
  • Isle of Tiree: Further afield, Tiree, located on the Gulf Stream, is a paradise for wind sports enthusiasts. Accessible beaches surround the island, accommodating most wind directions. Equipment hire and lessons for kitesurfing, windsurfing, and surfing are available. Tiree also hosts annual events, including the Wave Classic Competition, an ultramarathon, and a music festival.
